A Special Evening with Dionne Warwick, hosted by Alliance Data, Celebrates the Successes of People with Disabilities

Dionne Warwick charmed her fans and friends of Special Care & Career Services on April 1 – no foolin’! – at the Morton H. Meyerson Symphony Center.  A Special Evening with Dionne Warwick, hosted by Alliance Data was a fantastic success, thanks to more than a thousand generous sponsors, donors, and ticket holders.  Our annual benefit concert netted approximately $200,000 for the agency’s programs, Supported Employment Services and Early Childhood Intervention.

The evening opened with an exciting program emceed by the talented Jody Dean, Emmy Award-winner and host of the 98.7 KLUV Morning Show.  Alan Utay, representing Host Sponsor Alliance Data, introduced Jim Hanophy, winner of the Milton P. Levy, Jr. Outstanding Volunteer Award.  (See article on Jim).  Honorary Co-chairs, Anne and Steve Stodghill launched the first Special Evening event as Co-Chairs.  They encouraged the audience to expand their support of Special Care & Career Services by employing an agency client in the Supported Employment Services Program and increasing their financial support of the agency’s programs.  Event Chairs, Nicole Kapioltas and Angie Hubach graciously thanked our event sponsors, especially Alliance Data for hosting this annual event for the sixth consecutive year.

Aside from Dionne’s personable and rich performance, the memorable moment of the evening happened when Special Care & Career Services’ Supported Employment Services client and new board member Elizabeth Harber stole the hearts of the audience while telling her personal story.  She proudly expounded on her great job at Grant Thornton and her advancement to a full-time position with the help of SCCS.  Her enthusiasm escalated as she declared that because of her job, she had just leased her first apartment! The audience responded unanimously with a standing ovation and more than a few teary eyes.

The excitement of this special evening culminated with legendary Dionne Warwick.  Once again, the artist responded to the aura of The Meyerson and delivered her personal best.  The evening wrapped up with a fully engaged audience following Dionne’s lead in a series of rousing sing-alongs.

Special Care & Career Services extends deep appreciation to Host Sponsor Alliance Data for its support of our agency and its mission, Presenting Sponsor 98.7 KLUV and Jody Dean, Honorary Chairs Anne and Steven Stodghill, and Event Chairs Nicole Kapioltas and Angie Hubach.
